Australia Provides More than AUD 50 Million in Support of Vietnam’s Human Resource Development

The Australian government has committed to provide more than AUD 50 million to support Vietnam’s human resources development in the coming period.

On October 22, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), representing the governments of Vietnam and Australia, signed a Subsidiary Arrangement for –Australia- Vietnam Human Resources Development Program (Aus4Skills) for the period 2021 – 2025, valued up to AUD 50.1 million

According to the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, through the Aus4Skills program, the Australian Government will offer Australia Awards Scholarships for Vietnamese citizens to study at Australian universities, deliver Australian alumni professional development activities, as well as sponsor their projects that contribute to Vietnam’s development. Meanwhile, the program will also implement higher education capacity building activities with university leaders.

Ms. Robyn Mudie, Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, shared: “Australia’s Aus4Skills program remains highly relevant to supporting Vietnam’s future human resource development priorities, especially as it navigates the challenges presented by Covid-19. Over the decades, education has created many enduring partnerships between Vietnamese and Australian people and organisations. Through these partnerships, both Australian and Vietnamese citizens have contributed to Vietnam’s continued socio-economic development across a wide range of priority sectors, such as governance and economic growth, infrastructure and transport, water and sanitation, education, gender equality, agriculture and rural development.”.

From 2016 to 2021, the Aus4Skills program has benefitted more than 105,000 Vietnamese students though improved teaching, trainingcurricula and educational institute governance The program has also offered 240 Australia Awards Scholarships for Vietnamese citizens to study at Australian universities; delivered over $1m in grants funding for 95 development projects in Vietnam led by Australian alumni; and run 162 professional development events attended by more than 7,500 Australian alumni in Vietnam.

Moreover, the Aus4Skills program has also promoted linkages between logistics businesses and vocational education and training (VET) colleges to improve logistics workforce skills training; renewed 147 VET and university training curricula; generated 11 partnerships between Australian and Vietnamese universities and VET colleges; and supported the improvement of gender equality training for over 59,000 Vietnamese government officials.
