Australia Provides AUD 50.1 million for Vietnam’s Human Resource Development

On the 22th of October in Hanoi, an announcement was made by the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) on the second phase of the Australia-Vietnam human resource development program (Aus4Skills), valued up to AUD 50.1 million for the period 2021-2025.

Through the Aus4Skills program, the Australian Government will offer Australia Awards Scholarships for Vietnamese citizens to study at Australian universities, support Australian alumni in their professional development activities and provide grants funding to implement initiatives that contribute to Vietnam’s development.

The program will also provide higher education capacity building activities for Vietnamese university leaders.

Dr. Prof. Nguyen Van Phuc, Vice Minister of MOET, said at the event: “Viet Nam and Australia will continue to be strategic partners in education and training, contributing to our human resource development and economic goals.”

Ms Robyn Mudie, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam shared that Australia’s Aus4Skills program remains highly relevant to supporting Vietnam’s future human resource development priorities, especially as it navigates the challenges presented by the COVID-19.

According to Australian Embassy, from 2016 to 2021 more than 105.000 Vietnamese students benefited from the improvement in teaching, curriculum development, and educational institution governance through the Australian Government – supported Aus4Skills program.

Some examples amongst the results of Aus4Skills program are: 240 Vietnamese citizens received full scholarships to study at Australian universities; AUD 1million in funding was provided for 95 development projects initiated and managed by Australian alumni.

Additionally, teaching skills and practices of 339 Vietnamese lecturers from universities and vocational institutions were improved; linkages between logistics enterprises and vocational schools was established to improve the training and skills quality for the logistics human resources; 147 education curricula of universities and vocational institutes were renewed or revised.
