Australia Awards Scholarships: Investing in future global leaders

Twenty-two Vietnamese students are heading to Australia on their Australia Awards Scholarships to study in our world-class education, gain transformational experience, and embrace new ways of thinking, technology, and innovative approaches to solving global issues.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski congratulates new Australia Awards scholars.

This year marks 50 years since the first cohort of Vietnamese scholars arrived in Australia in 1974 to undertake their studies. To date, the Australian Government has provided over 6,500 scholarships, helping Vietnam to build its human resource capabilities in many critical sectors. Australian alumni have made substantial contributions towards Vietnam’s socio-economic development and built invaluable linkages between Australia and Vietnam.

The latest group of awardees, drawn from central and provincial governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and the private sector, will undertake study in a range of areas that support Vietnam’s long-term development. These include education, governance, economic growth, agriculture and rural development, health, cybersecurity, energy, innovation, and regional stability.

New Australia Awards scholars join a pre-departure briefing to get ready for their study in Australia.

Ms Tran Thuy Quynh Ngan, who will study for a Master of Strategic Communications Management at Monash University, said “I’m so excited and proud to be one of the first awardees working in the field of communications for social impacts. Knowledge, skills, and network gained from my master’s degree and life in Australia will help me create effective communication strategies to promote diversity and inclusion for people with disabilities.”

“I’ve already learned a lot from Australia Awards’ equity policies for applicants with disabilities, which ensure that we are supported throughout our application process and study in Australia,” Ngan added.

Mr Luu Quang Vu, who will study for a Master of Education at the La Trobe University, said “I really look forward to experiencing life in a beautiful and culturally diverse country like Australia. Studying for a Master of Education will enhance my educational management and curriculum development skills, considering factors such as gender equality and support for disadvantaged groups.”

“I will also draw on experience in Australia to advise educators and policy makers in my home province of Dien Bien to develop suitable vocational education policies which will create suitable livelihoods for people,” Vu said.

Australia Awards is one of Australia’s most significant development programs helping to meet bi-lateral development goals in participating countries. For the 2024 academic year, 989 students from 55 participating countries were offered long-term Australia Awards scholarships to study in Australia. Australia Awards encourage diverse backgrounds including, gender, race and people living with disability.

Australia Awards Scholarships for Intake 2025 also include Australia for ASEAN Scholarships, prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of leaders from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste. Australia for ASEAN scholars will also participate in an ASEAN Emerging Leaders Program, which will provide a range of learning, networking and professional development opportunities.
