Alumni exchange ideas for collaboration at Symposium 1

The ever-growing community of Australian alumni in Vietnam came together to exchange ideas and discuss future collaborations at the first Australian Alumni Symposium in Ho Chi Minh City on April 22.

Themed “Harnessing Resources, the symposium gathered 18 alumni speakers who shared knowledge and expertise in priority areas contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

Lively discussions following the presentations have opened up potential collaboration and training among alumni and participants in relevant fields.

Alumna Huynh Ngoc Hong Nhung introduced Can Tho City Association of People with Disabilities’ social inclusion model.

Alumnus Bach Ngoc Thang discussed PhD Training under Higher Education Reforms.

Ms Cherie Russell, Counsellor for Development Cooperation from Australian Embassy Vietnam, said knowledge sharing will help promote linkages and mentorship among alumni and with Australian peers, especially in priority development areas of Vietnam.

Keynote speaker Nguyen Ba Diep, Curtin University alumnus and Co-founder of Momo, expressed hope for more networking activities among alumni to support each other, help more people achieve their dreams of studying in Australia, and connect employers to talents.

Australian Alumni Symposiums 2023 are a series of three events showcasing alumni’s achievements in their professional and community work to the wider community. They are among activities celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.

The next two symposiums take place in Da Nang in June and Hanoi in September.
