On 11 June 2025, the Office of the Government (OOG) of Vietnam hosted a workshop in Hanoi for data management and sharing across public administration. The Australian Government, through the Vietnam Australia Centre (VAC) supported the event, as part of ongoing efforts to foster effective, transparent, and responsive governance.
More than 130 representatives from 13 ministries, 26 provinces and centrally-run cities, and multiple government departments joined the workshop. Participants heard from Vietnamese and Australian experts on both local context and international best practices in data governance.  Insights from Australia’s digital reform journey included the coordination role of the National Digital Transformation Agency to increase data sharing across government involving the Australian Bureau of Statistics and key agencies like the Health, Education, Social services and the Australian Tax Offices.
The draft guidelines provide a practical framework to help ministries and provinces establish performance indicators for direction and administration activities, and to promote evidence-based decision-making and data sharing across government. They also offer a robust foundation for improved inter-agency coordination and digital innovation.

This consultation workshop is part of the support activities provided by the Vietnam-Australia Centre to the Office of the Government, aimed at connecting Australian experts to share deep insights on data strategy, public sector innovation, and cross-agency collaboration.
Comparative analysis with close partners like Australia and through international organisations such as the United Nations and the World Bank, can provide valuable insights for Vietnam at a national, provincial and local level.
