Positive Impacts from an Education Cooperation Program

On 24th November, a wrap-up symposium for the Aus4skills – Thai Nguyen University (TNU) cooperation program was held at TNU.

In attendance at the event were Mr Brendon Brooker – Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, representatives of TNU and member universities, and related agencies in Thai Nguyen province.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Thanh Vân, TNU Vice President remarked: “Aus4skills is an Australian Government-supported program with the aim to help Vietnam gain access to a skilled workforce that meets the demands of the labour market and contributes to the sustainable development of the country. After four years of cooperation with TNU, Aus4Skills has delivered 17 training courses, in which 444 lecturers and staff members participated. 2,230 TNU lecturers and staff members, 25.720 students have benefited from the program”.

Speaking at the symposium, Mr Brendon Brooker, Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, highly appreciated the impressive results that the program has delivered. He mentioned that Australia has been supporting the human resources development program in Vietnam to strengthen the relationship between two countries and to promote education reform in Vietnam. As part of Australia’s long-standing partnership in education with Vietnam, a large number of Australian Awards scholarships have been granted to Vietnamese citizens. The cooperation between Aus4skills and TNU started in July 2017 and has been a driving force for change.

Participants presented results of the program. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Ngân, Vice Director, Office of Administration and Personnel at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), presented the changes in governance, leadership and management towards autonomy at TUAF. Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyễn Thúy Hà, Vice Director, Office of Administration and Personnel at TUAF, shared about how her university developed and renewed the training programs and teaching methods towards autonomy.

The program laid a good foundation for further development

Dr. Nguyễn Thị Hải Anh, Vice Dean, Faculty of Multimedia Communication, Thai Nguyen University of ICT, showcased the changes in gender equality promotion activities at TNU and its members. Regarding quality assurance, Dr. Pham Van Hung, Director of Department of Quality Assurance at TNU presented concrete examples of the changes at his university. 

Australian experts also shared their experiences and lessons learned through their work with TNU.
