Investing in a highly skilled logistics workforce for Vietnam

Investing in vocational education and training (VET) is crucial to building a highly skilled and competitive logistics workforce for Vietnam and VET teachers play the key role in this process. This year, the Australia Awards Short Course in Competency-based Training Assessment (CBTA) Strategies in Logistics delivered practical skills and knowledge for teaching to 21 Vietnamese VET educators across the country.

This is the fourth time Aus4Skills has organised this course, providing a deeper understanding of the best practices in VET and logistics and an opportunity to learn from leading Australian experts in the field.

CBTA courses feature several capacity building activities and visits to industry sites.

During the showcase and symposium for this course in Hai Phong on 12 May, participants reflected on their personal and team outcomes and presented implementation projects utilising insights they have gained throughout the course.

Le Thi Thanh Nhan, from Thu Duc College of Technology, presents a summary of her group’s activities at the symposium.

In their implementation projects, VET teachers conducted pilot trainings in Despatch stock, Receive and store stocks, Pick and process orders for their students. As part of the CBTA trial module, business representatives were invited to assess the students’ performance and their skills required to complete each module.

With this fourth CBTA course, Aus4Skills has delivered training to more than 90 VET teachers and trainers in the logistics sector, benefiting over 5,000 students from our partner colleges through trial modules.

Mr Vu Ninh, Chair of Vietnam’s Logistic Industry Reference Council (LIRC), highlighted that knowledge exchange during CTBA courses have been integrated into the course books – a product of cooperation and hands-on experience.

He highly appreciated support from Australia and expressed hope that the CBTA model can be applied to other VET fields.

Australia’s support for Vietnam is based on its world-leading VET sector that has strong quality assurance and works closely with industry.

Through Aus4Skills, the two countries are working together to strengthen vocation education and training in Vietnam, especially in the logistics sector, which is key to Vietnam’s socioeconomic development.

This includes building links between industry and VET providers to ensure graduates meet employer needs and support Vietnam’s development.

Australian and Vietnamese experts discuss effective teaching and training methods in CBTA at the symposium.

In addition to logistics skills, CBTA courses equipped VET teachers with relevant gender equality, social and disability inclusion (GEDSI) guidelines, which they shared to their students during the implementation projects.
