Education & Time Newspaper – This is the topic of a workshop involving experts from La Trobe University, Queensland University of Technology (Australia), lecturers, students, and managers from Tay Bac University.
The course “Inclusive and positive teaching in experimental sciences” was instructed by Professor Howard Nicholas, La Trobe University and provided by Aus4Skills program.
According to the course’s instructors, this teaching method helps students to quickly synthesize knowledge, understand lessons, and express their opinions, etc. The course is always very exciting when students argue openly.

At the workshop, Dr. Hoang Ngoc Anh, Head of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics Department briefly explained innovation process in evaluation activities at Tay Bac University, advantages and disadvantages when innovating students’ evaluation methods at university in the mountainous area.

Dr. Greg McMillan shared about the innovation process for assessing learners in Australia
Dr. Greg McMillan (Queensland University of Technology) – an expert with a lot of experience in learner evaluation, shared that previously, Australia used theoretical questions to test learners’ knowledge, and learners need to remember to can achieve high score. After that, more questions relating to actual cases and application are provided.
At the moment, Australian educators focus on how to apply knowledge with questions that give learners the opportunity to recognize, think more, so that learners go beyond theoretical knowledge but must think, analysis. The purpose of this method is help students to accumulate not only knowledge but also skills to immediately catch up with the labor market after their graduation.
“If we all think that the learner evaluation is important, the relevant channels in the university need to support, participate, and take specific actions to support the approach, thus making an innovation in assessing learners at the university” said Dr. Greg.

Group presentations at the workshop
After the “three-party meetings” between leaders, lecturers, students – Dr. Doan Duc Lan – Vice Rector of Tay Bac University affirmed: “The school always listens to the proposals of students and lecturers to provide the best supports toward more active and innovative teaching and learning experiences.
