Ethnic minority women and Women with Disabilities share agrilculture Start-up ideas

Along with the opportunity to demonstrate ideas and start-up products, ethnic minority women and women with disabilities also have the opportunity to exchange, share and connect with investors at The AgriBusiness Start-up Event held in Hanoi on 6 September 2019.

“The AgriBusiness Start-ups for Ethnic Minority Women and Women with Disabilities†comes under the “Project Enhancing the initiative of women in starting agribusiness in Lac Son and Luong Son districts (Hoa Binh province) and Soc Son district (Hanoi) â€. The program is funded by the Australian Government – through the Australian Alumni Support Fund, which is managed by the Australian Program for Vietnam Human Resource Development (Aus4Skills).

Ethnic minority women and women with disabilities sharing their start-up experiences

The project aims to empower women through improving agricultural knowledge and skills for nearly 100 ethnic women and women with disabilities who are managing and working in cooperatives and production groups in the three areas above.

After participating in training courses to improve their knowledge, design and testing of local agricultural production and trading models, 14 ideas were selected for presentation at The AgriBusiness Start-up Event.

The typical models such as jasmine tea production, mushroom cultivation, planting and trading of Siamese chili, mini supermarket of the disabled, processing of rose products, planting and trading of chestnuts … were introduced to investors and to get input from experts to help improve and turn entrepreneurship ideas of ethnic minority and disabled women into reality, create livelihoods and promote economic development for women.

Sharing at the The AgriBusiness Start-up Event, Ms. Pham Kieu Oanh – Executive Director of the Center for Supporting Initiatives for the Public (CSIP), the co-organizer of the project – said: Ethnic minority women and women with disabilities starting a business might face many difficulties in accessing resources and markets …The product development journey is not easy but ideas for starting a business in agriculture will be the key to help women succeed in economic development.
