Hanoi, 13 September – A hybrid workshop on the importance of sport for people with disabilities themed “Sports and Fitness for All” was held today, supported by the Australian Embassy in Vietnam. The event is part of the Alumni Engagement component of the Aus4Skills program and led by the Professional Group on Disability Inclusion.

The event was attended by many Australian alumni in Vietnam and members of the Vietnam Disability Vocational Education and Skills Development Centre (VDADC).

Nguyen Hong Giang, Project Officer at the social enterprise KisImpact and Co-convenor of the Alumni Disability Inclusion Professional Group, led the workshop alongside guest speakers Nguyen Xuan Khanh – member of VDADC Sports Club, Huynh Huu Canh – Officer of Kien Giang Province Sponsorship Centre and Founder and Head of Hoa Khuyet Running Club, Nguyen Tung Son – Physical Education Program Coordinator at RMIT University, Nguyen Duc Tuan – Football Coach for the Deaf, and Le Vu Diem Hang – CEO of GymHaus and Co-convenor of the Alumni Economics and Business Professional Group.

Presentations at the workshop focused on sport for health and rehabilitation of people with disabilities and steps to remove barriers and promote disability inclusion.

Participants took part in interactive discussions themed “Health Space for All” to explore barriers, solutions, and recommendations to build an inclusive sports environment which contribute to improving physical and mental health for everyone. They also joined guided exercises for a healthy body and mind.

VDADC Deputy Director Luong Thi Minh Nguyet, who is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Paralympic Committee, said: “The workshop has helped people with disabilities spread the spirit of community sports. As an education and capacity development organisation for people with disabilities in Vietnam, VDADC wants to connect with more organisations and individuals to further develop a community sports movement and support people with disabilities.”
