Strengthening university teaching skills in Vietnam

Twenty Vietnamese lecturers and leaders from the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), Regional Academies of Politics, and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) successfully completed the “Specialist Certificate in University Teaching” short course. This course is funded by the Australian Government through the Vietnam Australia Centre (VAC).

Participants of the “Specialist Certificate in University Teaching” short course – Cohort 1

This flagship course aims to provide participants with advanced knowledge, skills, and strategies to design engaging classes and learning experiences that lead to deep student learning and positive outcomes, contributing to the enhancement of the effectiveness of university teaching in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.

Ms Jennifer Bahen, Education Counselor, Australian Embassy in Vietnam, delivers remarks at the graduation ceremony.

Throughout the course, participants engaged in interactive seminars, guided workshops, and self-directed online modules led by experts from the University of Melbourne. They also experienced Australia’s best teaching practices, visited educational institutions, explored Australian culture, and engaged in knowledge exchange activities, expanding their understanding of innovative teaching methods and educational technologies.

Professor Chi Baik, University of Melbourne, reflects on the course.

As part of the learning outcomes, participants undertook 15 application projects on topics such as artificial intelligence in teaching and learning, enhancing classroom interaction, and assessing the effectiveness of teaching methods. These projects allowed them to apply their new knowledge in practical and impactful ways.

Training activities and field visits in Australia

On this occasion, following the success of the first cohort, Cohort 2 with a further 20 lecturers and training officers from HCMA, DAV and the Office of the Government will participate in a similar 10-month journey, from July 2024 to April 2025.

20 more participants in Cohort 2 are welcomed onboard a network of teacher trainers.

Participants of the “Specialist Certificate in University teaching” are expected to become pioneers in improving and enhancing the quality of higher education in Vietnam which is one of the priorities of the Government of Vietnam in driving forward the country’s development.
