Aus4Skills boosts university-industry linkages in higher education

Aus4Skills is providing support in fostering linkages between universities and industry to create better skilled graduates, contribute to research and development on issues facing industry.

Our latest cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) is the experience sharing Forum on University-Industry Linkages between over 150 international and Vietnamese participants, which was organised on 22 May 2024. The forum was co-hosted by Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE).

Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, emphasises the role of university-industry linkages in research and training.

Themed around the essential cooperation in research and training between higher education institutions and FDI enterprises, the event also celebrates new university–industry partnerships with six Memorandums of Understanding signed. Australia’s Blackstone Minerals entered into a partnership with Hanoi’s University of Geology and Mining. The agreement will see the university and industry work together to better understand how to treat waste material to allow repurposing into construction material products.

Ms Jennifer Bahen, Counsellor for Education and Science, Australian Embassy in Vietnam, witnesses the MoU handling ceremony alongside MOET officials and international government representatives.

Presentations by leading Vietnamese and international experts at the forum focused on partnerships between FDI corporations and universities, and how to move forward in training, research, commercialisation and workforce-readiness ahead of the rapidly changing economy.

Dr Greg McMillan, Aus4Skills Higher Education Advisor, shares best practices of university-industry partnerships from Australia.

Associate Professor Dr Luu Bich Ngoc, National Council for Education and Human Resource Development, Ministry of Education and Training presents on university-industry collaboration at the forum.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Hoang Tung, Principal, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, highlights current partnerships and strategies in expanding industry linkages at HUCE.

The forum also featured a panel discussion, chaired by Deputy Director General Nguyen Tien Dung, International cooperation department – MOET, looking further into the potential of stronger collaboration between international institutions and higher education institutions in Vietnam.

EuroCham representative William Badger named IT and AI as areas of opportunity for groundbreaking achievements and advancement for mutual growth in Vietnam.

Boeing Country Director Michael Vu Nguyen recommends balanced training in hard and soft skill for graduates as top priority for universities.

Higher education capacity building is an essential part of Australia and Vietnam’s joint efforts through Aus4Skills to improve governance and quality in Vietnam’s higher education sector.
