Education & Times Newspaper – Vo Van Oc, Research Assistant at a project under the Research Center for Rural Development, An Giang University, has just received the Australian Awards Scholarship to take the Master course at La Trobe University. His journey to achieve this prestigious scholarship was fraught with difficulty as he succeeded after the third attempt.

Third time lucky!

Vo Van Oc was a student at the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, An Giang University. After graduation, from 2014 he worked at the Research Center for Rural Development at the university. As a Research Assistant of a project, his daily work is managing the project’s administrative activities, organizing data collection and analysis, etc. According to him, the biggest fortune is that he was instructed directly by Dr. Nguyen Van Kien who received the Australian Awards Scholarship for the Master and PhD courses. Dr. Kien has inspired, encouraged, and supported Oc throughout his pursuit of this scholarship.

According to Vo Van Oc, the Australian Awards Scholarship, with high humanistic values, aims to not only to help Vietnamese students improve their skills and knowledge but also to contribute to the socio-economic development of Vietnam. After acquiring two years’ work experience, Oc started his race to pursue the Australian Awards Scholarship.

“Applicants should carefully study the scholarship information provided. In their essays, arguments should be described clearly and specifically. Specific points will help the application to stand out. It is necessary to explain links between their career and their expected study and plans after graduation, etc. When these links are demonstrated, the applicant will have a higher chance of getting the scholarship.” â€“ shared Mr. Vo Van Oc.

In the first year, due to insufficient knowledge about the scholarship’s objectives, Oc failed at the first stage. In the second year, Oc passed the application stage but failed at the interview stage. He was so sad and disappointed. However, after receiving encouragement from his instructor, he quickly recovered and tried to accomplish all assigned tasks while preparing his application for the third attempt.

This time, Oc put his wholehearted enthusiasm into every page, carefully studied all content, and listened to every advice from many alumni on how a candidate from a center under a university can have a chance. In his personal essay, Oc collected the experiences of many candidates to choose an appropriate approach closely related to the current situation and with a clear explanation of his achievements so far in order to persuade the readers. At the interview stage, Oc expressed his determination to study for not only for his own but also the community’s development. This time, Vo Van Oc realized his dream, and is preparing for his study at the beginning of June in the land of kangaroos.

Dream to preserve and develop floating rice production

Vo Van Oc has been working on a project for preserving and developing floating rice production. Oc plans to support the community to preserve and promote floating rice and clean food production after finishing his Master course in Australia. His support is expected to help the local community to increase income, improve livelihoods, and provide safe, clean food for consumers.

In addition, upon his return, Vo Van Oc plans to organize talks to share and exchange views about the knowledge and skills he gained with students at his organization, to bring them closer to international education and innovations in learning and teaching.

Vo Van Oc and the other 22 recipients of the Australian Government Scholarship are very confident about experiencing their new life and study in Australia. The Australian Awards Scholarship provides not only information and knowledge for recipients throughout the application process, but also a free English course up to 12 months at RMIT University to help recipients meet qualifications required by Australian universities.

“The Australian Awards Scholarship is the most wonderful and thoughtful scholarship I have ever known” – shared Vo Van Oc
