The awarding ceremony of the Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit to members of the Rapid Response Team for Pandemic Prevention and Control (National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control) took place in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, right at their workplace, without flowers, music, or podiums.

In the afternoon of May 22nd, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Vu Duc Dam worked with the COVID-19 Rapid Response Team (National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control).
A representative of the team reported that IT experts and volunteers were focusing on analysing the Covid declarations made by workers in industrial zones in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh. In doing so, artificial intelligence (AI) technology was used to contact, record, and detect potential cases to pinpoint isolation areas more properly.
In particular, upon receiving information about the new cases at SPICA company (Que Vo 1 Industrial Park, Bac Ninh), on the afternoon of May 22nd, the team quickly mobilised resources to analyse, contact, and coordinate with local authorities to carry out necessary and timely response measures.
DPM Dam requested the team to exercise extra support to workers in industrial zones, as well as people in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang to complete declarations, not only in infection areas but also in pandemic free zones to ensure no interruption to the production process.

At the working session, on behalf of the Prime Minister, DPM Dam presented Certificates of Merit to members, volunteers, and IT experts, who have selflessly volunteered to participate in the early days of COVID-19 prevention and control. Their work included tracing and building COVID safety system, coordinating, completing declarations, and assessing risks in localities.
Receivers of the Certificate were from different units, yet they shared one common thing, that was, to voluntarily join in and contribute their knowledge, and efforts to defeat the “COVID enemy” together with the whole country.

In addition to those 7 outstanding individuals, the team received constant support of volunteered experts, including Dr. Dao Thi Ha (Mathematics), who could recall every single case and the inter-relationship of hundreds of cases. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem (Sociology), developer of indicators to establish risk assessment models. Moreover, supports were received from staff and experts of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Hanoi Medical University, University of Public Health, Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University (Hanoi).
The ceremony took place right at the workplace in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, regardless of no flowers, music, or podium. Immediately after the ceremony, awardees, together with their colleagues returned to their workstation.
On behalf of the IT experts and volunteers, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy, the Team Leader, expressed thoughtful surprise and appreciation for the consideration, evaluation and praise from the Prime Minister, and the National Steering Committee, especially when it occurred at the work place, where his team members were working hard to analyse, report and forecast the situation of Covid 19 in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, as well as the whole country.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Bao Son, Deputy Director of Hanoi National University, an expert in AI, stated “joining the Rapid Response Team was an opportunity for IT experts and students to do something specific and practical, to contribute to the pandemic prevention and control effort of the whole country”.
