Fifty-two Vietnamese ready for study in Australia

Fifty-two Vietnamese students are heading to Australia with scholarship to study at Australian universities under Australia Awards. They will gain invaluable skills and connections to support Vietnam’s long-term inclusive development, and also spent two years living in Australia enjoying the beautiful beaches, bush and cities.

“Australia is proud to have supported Vietnam’s human resource development for over 50 years through the scholarships. These scholarships allow our countries to better understand each other, equip future Vietnamese leaders with the skills and knowledge to drive change and deepen the ties between our two countries” said Ms Cherie Russell, Development Counsellor of the Australian Embassy in Hanoi.

Ms Cherie Russell congratulates new awardees.

Hoang Nhat Minh, who will study a Master of Education at Flinders University in Adelaide, said, “My study enhances my skills as a special education needs teacher and equip me to contribute more dynamically to any educational role I take on. I am excited to deepen my knowledge of equitable learning and explore best practices that can make a lasting impact on students with diverse needs.”

Hoang Nhat Minh delivers a reflection speech.

The latest group of awardees, drawn from central and provincial governments, non-government organisations, academic institutions, and the private sector, will undertake study across a range of topics, including agriculture, digital transformation, climate change, energy, governance, gender equality, disability, health and human rights.

Awardees are equipped with knowledge about life in Australia and networking skills to get ready for their study.

This year, Australia included 12 scholarships under the Australia for ASEAN scholarships. The initiative aims at strengthening people to people links between Australia and ASEAN countries, empowering young leaders to tackle regional challenges and enhance collaborative partnerships across Southeast Asia.

Australia Awards are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders in developing countries. To date, more than 7,500 Australia Awards scholarships have been awarded to Vietnamese citizens.

Australia for ASEAN scholars

Upon returning home, many alumni have been successful in their career and are now holding senior positions in Vietnam. The Australian alumni community has made significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Vietnam and building a lasting relationship between Vietnam and Australia.
