What are career opportunities for women in logistics industry in the coming five years?

The Symposium on Australia Awards Short Course on International Skills Training (IST) for Trainers in Logistics in Vietnam was organised on the 27th September in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

The Symposium on Australia Awards Short Course on International Skills Training (IST) for Trainers in Logistics in Vietnam was organised on the 27th September in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

The 25 participants of this training course, which started in June 2019, are lecturers at vocational colleges from across the country. A series of advanced approaches, including competency-based training, occupational standards and occupational skill standards in logistics were introduced during the course.

This training course aimed to equip participants with skills, including ability to describe basic elements of training design, implementation and evaluation; plan, prepare and implement training sessions for groups / classes; identify training models in logistics; describe necessary measures to ensure gender equality and disability inclusion.

 

At the symposium, participants and attendees shared the knowledge gained from the training program and their experience in putting this knowledge into their training practice. In addition, participants also shared the challenges and opportunities resulting from this course.

According to a report by the Vietnam Logistics Business Association and Aus4Skills, it is forecast that the most popular recruitments by logistics companies in the coming five years will be for customer declaration officers; logistics administrative staff; freight forwarders; warehouse operators and warehouse managers; truck drivers; e-commerce business staff; transportation coordinators; IT staff. This offers a great career opportunity for women, as female workers are typically suitable for the jobs that require dexterity, flexibility, carefulness, sensitivity and flexibility in in handling work.

A survey shows that, positions that are mostly taken by women are: logistics administration; customs clearance; e-commerce business; inventory management; online marketing; and freight forwarding
